Community Property in a Nutshell

Community property is recognized in the following States:  AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX,WA,WI, the laws vary for each of the States.  A general definition is that all assets purchased by a married couple with assets earned during the marriage are owned equally by the husband and wife regardless of how it’s titled ( Unless it’s acquired by gift or inheritance) and all debts are incurred equally.  Keep in mind that all divorce laws vary widely within the Community Property States, so check your states laws which you can find most likely on your States website, then look for the State Statutes for your State.
